The West Bank Union at the University of Minnesota was established in 1967 to offer services to students. Edward Everett Nicholson (Dean Nick) began as an instructor in the Chemistry Dept. at the University of Minnesota in 1895. He was promoted to Asst. Professor in 1900; in 1915 he accepted a joint appointment as full professor and assistant dean. In 1917, that appointment was changed to Dean of Student Affairs (jointly with the chemistry professorship), but in 1919 Nicholson became a full time Dean of Student Affairs.
